When challenged to ascertain shank style required for a percussive air tool products use the following guidance/reference(s) to validate.
- tools larger than air hammers typically abbreviated reference to model stamped into barrel as "Size:"
Terminology - Shank Styles
Air Hammers and Riveters*:
- .401 round shank (*.498 round shank for AVC26 series)
Scalers:
- Cleco style for 125, IR shank for 170, 172, 180, 182
Chipping Hammers:
- shank can be .58 hex or .68 round
- collar can be oval or round
- note last characters of model part number
- 1SA indicates hex shank oval collar
- 2SA indicates round shank oval collar
- A1 indicates hex shank round collar
- A2 indicates round shank round collar
Diggers:
- model dictates; shank is 7/8 hex by 3-1/4 or 1 hex by 4-1/4
Pavement Breakers:
- model dictates; shank is 1 hex by 4-1/4 or 1-1/8 hex by 6 or 1-1/4 hex by 6
Jackhammers and Rockdrills
- model dictates; shank is 7/8 hex by 3-1/4 or 7/8 hex by 4-1/4 or 1 hex by 4-1/4
