What is single sign-on (SSO) and how am I impacted? Where should I look for procedural guidance regarding login and troubleshooting SSO?

For purposes of this self-help content; SSO is what Ingersoll Rand FMT is using to authenticate users and provide access control to a growing number of web services delivering content and support services to our employees, business partners and customers. The implementation, known as "Sign In", provides all these functions.
Depending on the type of user you are, the impact to you should never be anything more cumbersome than requesting and/or managing your profile at signin.irco.com.
Attached below are two presentations that should serve as "Introductory Guides" and are specifically tailored for Zendesk Support but should provide some aid to other web services (and may be adjusted in future).
Troubleshooting Password Reset:

System should send you a one-time password and link to reset the password (internal users should set it to their current network password)
